Peer Review Guidelines:

Read the essay through once without commenting.
On a separate sheet of paper, write down what argument you think the essay is making.
Answer the question: is this a clear argument that takes a stand of rhetorical analysis, possibly including strong response?

Peer Review Questions--After answering the questions above, address the questions below.

Thesis: Does the thesis take an arguable stand that based in rhetorical analysis and includes some supporting points? How might the thesis be improved?

Summary: Is the essay being analyzed summarized in sufficient detail so that you feel you understand the article’s main points, even if you have not read it? How might this be improved?

Analysis: Is the analysis thorough, containing as many of the following as possible:

Demonstrates familiarity with/understanding of basic terms of rhetoric;
Identifies the writer’s rhetorical situation (audience, purpose, and genre)
Correctly identifies and evaluates or analyzes the writer’s use of rhetorical appeals and strategies
Uses rhetorical language correctly when analyzing a text

How might this be improved?

Documentation: Are quotes used sparingly—i.e, only when the exact wording is crucial? Does the writer distinguish between his/her writing and that of the author being analyzed?

Citation: Are the author and title of the article being analyzed cited properly? Is the author referred to by last name throughout, according to the convention?
